Liv’s Secrets vividly captures the experience of living under apartheid in South Africa from 1948 to the early 1990s.

Following the journey of the Weisz family, immigrants from Lithuania to South Africa, the novel portrays them as ‘Strangers in a Strange Land,’ grappling with the challenges of adapting to a new country amidst profound societal changes.

The narrative poignantly illustrates the harsh realities of apartheid, offering readers a profound understanding of the sacrifices immigrants must endure to survive. Amidst these struggles, the book also beautifully portrays the country’s landscapes and the warmth of its people, inspiring a deep yearning to experience South Africa firsthand.

Janet has decades of published writing experience as an  author and a freelance journalist. She is the author of six published works.  Deeply involved in South African politics, Janet traveled extensively internationally and, as a public representative on the Johannesburg City Council, interacted with national and international journalists and embassy personnel from many countries. 

For twenty-nine years (1986-2014), she taught in the English department at Milton Academy in Massachusetts. She leads workshops and presents programs internationally on the psychology of personality using the E-model. An anti-apartheid activist and an expert on SA and South African politics.

As the founder and leader of several successful nonprofit organizations in South Africa and the United States, Janet remains a committed activist for human rights.

Janet is working on her latest fiction, The Awakening of Diya Sharma.
