Book Talk: The Curse of Raven’s Rose Keep by Gregory Downey
If you're in search for a refreshing take on a vampire novel with plenty of action, this would be it. Beautifully written sword fighting, romance, castles, and vampires; this novel has it all. What I loved most about this book is the character development, the detailed imagery that it makes you feel as if you're there with the characters in every page. A true page turner, I wouldn't be surprised if this book is adapted into a movie!.
— Christy Garcia
The Curse of Raven's Rose Keep is a vampire love story, but it's not just any vampire love story.
Garrick, a warrior who has reached the end of his career, returns to his castle keep. There, he meets a mysterious woman with an even more mysterious past. Their love is fated, but it is not one without obstacles. Angela is a noblewoman who has been turned into a vampire and cursed to live in the darkness. For their love to survive, they must face many obstacles and impossible battles.
This book is a unique take on a vampire novel. It is beautifully written with detailed imagery that transports the readers to a different world. It involves action, romance, sword fights, castles, vampires, and so much more. The readers are taken into exhilarating battles and quiet moments that both reveal the nature of the characters. This book is fantastical yet extremely human.
The Curse of Raven's Rose Keep immerses the reader into a world that is so different yet so much like the one that we live in. This is a realm where paranormal and mortal lives co-exist. The story may be from a different world and the characters far from being ordinary people, but at its core, there is something familiar about the story of Garrick and Angela. It is not only the romance that will resonate to the readers but the human moments of developing friendships, navigating emotions and circumstance, as well as overcoming struggles.
Reviews and What Readers Say
" Dark stormy nights, hidden crypts and moonlight battles abound in this tale of fated love that must over come all obstacles if it is to survive.A world weary warrior returns to his castlekeep with hope of retirement into managing his feudal lands. Instead he finds love in the form of a mysterious woman with a shadowy past who appears in the forest adjacent his Keep. Suffice to say she is more than she seems and brings as much challenge to his life as she does joy...The tale moves from moment to, dramatic moment with rapidity. Be it a moonlight tryst by the sea, a tavern brawl, or a supernatural battle in the heart of a graveyard, there is a cinematic style to the writing that makes it easy to see in your mind’s eye.For all the high emotion and grand adventure, i enjoyed the quiet moments between characters developing friendships the most. This is when we really get to know the characters and where their depth begins to show.Sharpen your blade, hope for the sun to rise and let the moment carry you away to Raven’s Rose Keep! "

" From the very beginning of this story, I was pulled into a totally immersive land of mystery where paranormal and human lives intertwine. To be honest, I don't generally enjoy male lead charters in my novels. I'm normally a paranormal-romance-with-a-strong-female-lead kinda girl, but having the male warrior perspective and his journey through a spartan life into surreal love was a story that I could not stop reading. Loved it."

" I rarely write reviews but I had to give one on this book. I have read a quite few vampire novels (for better or for worse) but this the first one that combines fantasy, adventure, sword-fighting and romance into one epic story. Even at 300+ pages, it's easy reading and chapters easily flew by. I was engrossed in the turbulent romance between the Garrick and Angela. The story feels timeless yet also fresh. The descriptions are very detailed including the fighting. By the way, the fighting is great. This is not just a romance novel. This a real action-adventure with plenty of sword-fighting."
