The magnificent green rainforest is home to many kinds of flora and fauna. Elizabeth Diana Louise, also known as Betsy, is one of its residents. Betsy loves her pond home. The large blue pond is in the middle of the forest. It sparkles in the sun, and the water is fresh and inviting. Betsy, like every frog in the pond, is always eager to swim and play and have fun. But unlike other frogs who are busy jumping off lily pads, splashing each other, and chasing after mosquitoes, Betsy keeps to herself without a playmate or a friend. You see, unlike other green frogs, Betsy is colored blue and so very small. Because of her color, she disappears the moment she jumps in the blue pond. Other frogs do not want to play hide and seek with her. They stay away from Betsy. Her mother says she is different for a purpose and she is beautiful just as she is, but Betsy is still sad and lonely. She doesn’t want to have any purpose. Instead, she wants to be just like everyone else.

Why isn’t she green like other happy frogs? Why is she so tiny? Betsy soon learns a lesson she will treasure for as long as she lives.

Author Kimatha Oxford Grice has been an occupational therapist for forty fruitful years and has taught as a university professor for twenty-three years. She has worked with children of all ages, both as an occupational therapist and as a clown—she goes around nursing homes, hospitals, and churches performing as a clown. Betsy the Blue Frog is a unique book. It is easy to read, with lots of colorful illustrations to entice young readers, but more than anything else, Grice successful created a delightful story about acceptance and self-love that should be taught to kids as early as possible. Teaching kids that having differences in appearance, personality, and opinion are all right is essential, and Betsy the Blue Frog is a wonderful teacher.
