In the eyes of a child, a butterfly is always a beauty to behold, but little Fresja doesn’t seem to think so. Fresja is a small butterfly who is yet to learn what real beauty is.
Fresja, the butterfly, went through a fantastic transformation from being a small egg on a leaf to a hungry, leaf-eating caterpillar. When she had grown enough from her eating binge, she formed into a pupa, and her metamorphosis began. Metamorphosis is the transformation of a pupa to an adult butterfly. The caterpillar makes a cocoon around its tiny body, and the transformation happens inside. When the process is completed, a beautiful butterfly will slowly emerge from the envelope.
After all the transformation she’s been through, Fresja comes out of her cocoon not knowing how special she is. The big world is full of beautiful things like flowers, ladybugs, and even more colorful butterflies. Next, to them, Fresja feels very ordinary until, one day, Fresja finds a magical mirror. She looks into the mirror and oh my! Fresja meets an extraordinary butterfly none other than Fresja herself!
Fresja is beyond ecstatic. She calls her friends so they can try out the mirror and see how lovely they are too.
Author Jenny Braun is an elementary school teacher who has seen the prevalence of low self-esteem and anxiety among students. She hopes that Fresja and the Magical Mirror will help children perceive themselves differently and learn to love and accept who they are. It teaches them that when we love and appreciate ourselves, we can love and understand others.
This wonderfully illustrated book is set to make a difference in the lives of young readers. And then they too can make a difference in the world.
