Is God enough?

In Through Horror to Hope: A Faith Journey to Hopefulness in the Face of Evil, author Robert Bailor continues to follow Michael and his unsteady faith as he comes face-to-face yet again with another hurdle, another test that may crash his faith or resurrect it for good.

A very pregnant Cheryl Sims approached Father Tom. Should she save herself from the tumor aggressively eating at her body, or should she save the little one in her womb? Roger, the husband, proposed an abortion, but Cheryl’s Catholic faith came in the way. Father Tom, however, put out any doubts and questions she had. The human being she was carrying was made in the image and likeness of God, and as a child of God herself, she ought to love her little human as much as she loved herself.

Cheryl chose her child over her own life. She died in a Catholic hospital surrounded by the love of her family. Roger Sims had never been the same since. To Roger, Father Tom had the chance to save Cheryl, but he was too blinded by faith to see it led right to Cheryl’s death and Roger’s destruction. To avenge Cheryl, Roger massacred Father Tom and countless members of his congregation—men in worship, their guards down, women with their arms around their children, and Father Tom.

Michael and Emilee were fortunate to escape the massacre through a church side door. Still, Michael couldn’t escape the barrage of emotions and questions that rendered him sleepless and hopeless, questioning God and his power over men and the earth. How could the God of Mercy allow death to sweep over his unsuspecting servants while they were deep in praise? If faith couldn’t save the faithful from a lunatic like Roger, could it save men from the grips of the devil?

Michael was thrown into upheaval, unlike any other, he had surpassed before. Now he wasn’t sure at all of his faith, the very thread keeping him together.

In another gripping masterpiece, Robert Bailor takes readers into a philosophical and spiritual adventure. Bailor asks the hard questions just as his protagonist examines his convictions in a crisis that countless men and women today are familiar with: Is faith enough to save man? Is God enough?

A book worth reading a second or a third time, if only to drive home the implacable truth about God and man. A must-read.
