THE RUNDOWN: SYNOPSIS & Media reviews

“Anywhere You Run had me hooked from the first page… It’s a novel both tender and ferocious—an absolute stunner.”—Lou Berney, Edgar Award–winning author of November Road.

Prepare to be taken on a gripping and suspenseful journey in the latest novel from the award-winning author of “All Her Little Secrets.”

Set in Jim Crow, Mississippi, in the summer of 1964, the story follows the lives of two Black sisters, Violet and Marigold, as they flee their troubled pasts, hoping to start anew.
After a white man is murdered in Mississippi for supporting Black voter rights, Violet finds herself in a dangerous situation when she suffers a brutal attack and is forced to take matters into her own hands.  Knowing she won’t receive fair treatment from the justice system, she flees with the help of her white boyfriend.  But even in hiding in the small town of Chillicothe, Georgia, Violet can’t shake off the feeling that danger is lurking around every corner.

Meanwhile, Marigold dreams of attending law school and working towards furthering the cause of the Black vote. However, after becoming pregnant and unmarried, she’s faced with a dilemma when the police come knocking at her door in connection to the recent murder.  With no other option, Marigold also decides to flee, heading north in search of a better life free from segregation.

As the sisters try to leave their pasts behind, they are unaware that a man with a dark motive is hot on their trail. With secrets of his own, this man is determined to find the sisters, putting their lives and those of their unborn children in peril.

Will the sisters be able to escape their pasts, or will they be forced to confront the consequences of their actions? Find out in this thrilling novel full of secrets, danger, and suspense.
